CHAMPIONS

Since the LNFA's inaugural season in the Fall of 1996 we have had only 5 different clubs (Brits, Inter. Niguel, Audax Niguel, 77 and Alianza) win the coveted Spring and Fall Championships which is a testament to how competitive the competitions are. The LNFA Cup and LNFA Mug competitions were added in 2007. The "Eternal Champions" Brits F.C. set the standard for play in our association by dominating the early competitions with their skill and fitness. Over time other clubs worked to catch the front runners and in 2004 the Brits hold on the LNFA was broken by Inter. Niguel F.C. opening the way for other clubs to share in the glory of winning the league title. Since then 77 F.C. has risen to the top of the new champions setting the current bar high for all others to aspire to.

COMPETITIONS

The LNFA Spring and LNFA Fall Seasons are the oldest competitions we have. The Spring Season typically begins in early January and ends in July although there are always variations as to the exact starting date due to scheduling conflicts. The Fall Season usually starts in September and runs until December. The purpose of these competitions is to crown a champion which accumulates the most points over time while playing all clubs in the association highlighting consistency (league format). The LNFA Spring and Fall Champions and clubs which face relegation and promotion are determined by the number of points accumulated throughout this competition. The winner of Division I is considered the LNFA Champion for these competitions. The winner of Division II is the LNFA Division II Champion. The bottom two clubs in Division I are relegated to Division II while the top two clubs in Division II are promoted to Division I from season to season. The LNFA Cup and LNFA Mug are two of the newest competitions we have which run during the LNFA Spring Season. The purpose of these competitions is to crown a champion who defeats whichever club is drawn against them in a single elimination winner takes all environment. The tournament format creates added excitement and drama in every match.

CLUBS PAST AND PRESENT

The LNFA humbly began with 4 clubs, Audax Niguel F.C., Brits F.C., Eagles F.C. and Niguel F.C. (which was a spin off from Audax to make up a foursome. Over the years we have added a couple of clubs at a time to bring us to the current 14 club incarnation. In addition to the current clubs we have today, many other clubs have come through the ranks and most have left the association better off then when they joined. Founding club Audax Niguel F.C. which originally split from Inter. Niguel F.C. rebranded as the Rhodies in 2006 after many successful seasons including 2 championships. Inter. Niguel F.C. disbanded in 2005 after breaking the Brits hold on the LNFA and holds a special place in league history. Ballpark Pizza F.C. rebranded in 2008 as the Nationals F.C. after several productive years in the association. Along with these clubs others such as Homa F.C. and Sterling Pacific F.C. have enjoyed time with us.
